Kipp Crawford, well known drummer for Celilo and the Fractal Quintet, was killed early this morning in North Portland after being struck by two vehicles while riding his bicycle. The Ashland native was 31.
We had the pleasure of meeting Kipp when he was in for Celilo's session this past April, and our sincere condolences go out to his friends and family.

Kipp played a few shows with me on drums. He was a very talented musician and a great guy. It's a sad sad day. He will be missed. Tomorrow it's going to rain...
RIP Buddy.

Kipp was a wonderful person and I am so sorry that he was taken from this world so young. My heart goes out to his family.

Damn, damn.
It's a hard rain's gonna fall...
Maybe somehow this will inspire someone to write as well as Zimmerman.
RIP

Kipp was a really great person and a really great musician. He will always be remembered and his music will endure. His talent and his kindness are a legacy few of us can claim.

Kipp was everything that people say he was multiplied by all that is good. He was kind and gentle and loyal and talented and loving and searching. We love Kipp and we miss him and we look to the good in people and the world to take care of his friends and family.

Kipp was definitely one of THE "cats" down here in Ashland before he left for Portland. The Ashland music community is reeling from this terrible news. His drum teacher of 6 years is especially upset. When I spoke to him this afternoon, he noted a couple of things: 1) in 6 years, Kipp never missed a lesson and always came prepared 2) we can't recall ever hearing Kipp say something bad about a fellow player. Kipp was a great all-round guy who will definitely be missed.

I got to know Kipp pretty well after touring with him several times as the rhythm section for Ruby Dee and the Snakehandlers. As a musician, he brought great energy and musical skill to every performance. As a person, he was kind, considerate, insightful, highly intelligent and just plain fun to be with. I feel fortunate to have been able to play so much music with him and to have travelled together. I miss him terribly.

Don't really know what to say--I've talked to Kipp a few nights a week since he'd moved to N. Portland, and this is just so unbelievable. We talked about loads of stuff for so long before I even knew he played music--not to mention that he was such a great musician. Then when we did talk about it, he was so damn humble, and even though we were both musicians, it was never much of a topic--he had no agenda. I heard that he had a home studio and recorded well and asked him to record my music--especially since he was just so laid back and I knew it'd turn out well--he had such a great vibe and we were so comfortable with each other. He was such a smart, funny and incisive guy and his opinion meant so much to me--I couldn't wait.
What's happened is so crazy, so random, and I still can't get my head around it.
Kipp--I hope you know you've really touched a lot of people and you'll not be forgotten!

Kipp...I love you and Charlie loves you in the face! Only you will know what that means. I pray that you are in peace. Rest well dear Kipp.
