Blitzen Trapper in-studio, 4-2-09

Recording engineer: Steven Kray

Technical assistance: Bill Ward

A lot has happened for Blitzen Trapper in the 21 months since our first session with the band. It was just after that first visit, in fact, that it was announced that they had signed to Sub Pop, a career move that ultimately resulted in Furr, one of the more lauded records of 2008. Still riding the momentum unleashed by that release, the Portland band plays for us and talks about the subtle shift in sound that exists between their latest and its predecessor, the frenetic Wild Mountain Nation, as well as well as the difference working with a label like Sub Pop has made.

Look for Blitzen Trapper on the festival circuit in the coming months, including appearances at Sasquatch, Pitchfork, and Pickathon.

I think they were having you about Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. I could hear their tongues firmly planted in their cheeks.
