Bombadil

Bombadil @ OPB, 6-13-08

Somewhere between Durham, NC, Bolivia, and (apparently) Middle Earth exists Bombadil. The Duke University-borne quartet released A Buzz, A Buzz earlier this year on Ramseur and it has since garnered much praise for its off-kilter rhythms and occasionally rustic instrumentation, not to mention the challenge of summing up their sound in a few words. Reviews have drawn comparisons to everyone from Paul Simon (and there are instances that are reminiscent of "El Condor Pasa") to They Might Be Giants to labelmates and fellow North Carolinans the Avett Brothers. They joined us in the studio for some slightly stripped down versions of songs from their new release, plus an exotic new one they labeled an "audio postcard" (that hints at a bit of the Incredible String Band in the process).
