Portland's Y La Bamba have announced their return early next year with a second full-length release. Court the Storm is the title of the record, due out February 28th on Tender Loving Empire, and if you've seen the band live at any time over the past 14 months or so, you know why this one is much anticipated around these parts. Add to that the intriguing facts that Neko Case guests on the title track and that Steve Berlin (Los Lobos saxman but also a producer whose credits include Sierra Leone's Refugee All-Stars, Alec Ounsworth and March Fourth Marching Band, among others) handled production duties, and we can't wait to hear what's been drummed up.
A chance to get a live taste of what's to come on record happens next week, as Y La Bamba headlines at Holocene on December 15th. In the meantime, our October 2010 session with the band likely serves as an appetizer. They played an entire set of what was at the time unrecorded material and have continued to play these live-- this one was an instant favorite: "Viuda Encabronada."
