The Dandy Warhols return April 24th with the release of This Machine, their 8th (or 9th, or perhaps 10th) full-length release (depending on who's counting). Recorded at the band's own Odditorium space over the course of last year, the speculation is that it might contain a flavor in the direction of the material they played in our studios in September of 2010.
"Stripped down" and "woody" are descriptors that Courtney Taylor-Taylor has used to describe the record, which includes a version of Merle Travis' classic "16 Tons" amongst its eleven cuts. That possibility, along with the cover art up there and the celebration this year of Woody Guthrie's 100th birthday, suggest a Guthrie homage from a rather unlikely source (but that's total speculation, of course). Then again, Courtney's guitar alone may be the inspiration as you'll note in the video below.
The Dandys commence touring for the new effort with a string of European dates in April, the first of which is April 14th in Bergen, Norway. Yes way! Here, by the way, is the tracklisting:
