Poly Styrene (aka Marianne Elliot-Said), best known as the frontwoman of pioneering punk act X-Ray Spex while she was still just a teenager, died yesterday following a battle with breast cancer. She was 53.
While she had released a number of solo albums since her band's one and only release in 1978 (including her latest, Generation Indigo, out just today), it's that debut that's proven to be her signature, most notably the hit "Oh Bondage! Up Yours!".
