Beth Ditto of Portland's own Gossip received a hero's welcome at the Crystal Ballroom Thursday night, with hair-raising vocals that perfectly complemented her band's tight instrumentation and heart-bumping beats. A combination of pop, funk, soul, rock, electronica, dance hall, gospel and any other miscellaneous feel-good music you can think of, The Gossip's show packed a punch well worth remembering. Though these may capture Ditto's toothy smile and glittery get-up, they couldn't possibly get across the adrenaline of the audience and the raucous feeling of abandon that the band's performance imparted. The Gossip is off to San Francisco before jetsetting to South America and Europe to continue celebrating their newest release,A Joyful Noise.
