PDX Pop RAWR!

As much a sure sign of summer's approach as the sun and warmth Portland's been basking in lately, PDX Pop Now! has lifted the curtain on their ninth annual compilation. Once again, it looks to be a diverse and exciting collection (41 tracks) spread over the two discs (sorry, no cassettes yet again this year). That includes more well known quantities (M. Ward, Y La Bamba, AU, Radiation City, Tu Fawning), current up and coming buzz acts (Pure Bathing Culture, Wild Ones, Onuinu) and unknown wild cards that often prove to be the real revelations (Unknown Mortal Orchestra and Lost Lander last year, anybody?).

An artist who already sounds like she might belong in that last category is 16 year-old MC Rose, who's also scheduled to play the compilation release show June 7th at Holocene (ain't no big thing). It's already clear that Rose isn't messing around, but then she starts dropping lines like "half a y'all ain't got half of a clue" in her "Ride for My City" included on the comp and it's clear she just might be going places.

Speaking of that release show, it's a doozy. Along with Rose, it's Sun Angle, Wild Ones, Hollywood Tans and DJ Porsche Cayenne at Holocene, 7:30 and ALL-AGES. As usual, the price of admission also scores you a hot off the presses copy of the compilation, the full tracklist for which is as follows.

The big drum-up to the PDX Pop Now! festival begins about now, too-- that's July 20-22 at Refuge with a lineup to be announced in the coming weeks.
