A scruffy professorial looking Will Sheff took the Jimmy Fallon stage last night fronting an expanded version of his band, Okkervil River, that included New Pornographer A.C. Newman, members of The Roots, and a small orchestra. There were lots of people up there.
They announced a May 10th release date for their newest studio album entitled I Am Very Far and performed album track, "Wake and Be Fine". Sheff and Newman delivered in unison the more shouted than sung verses - an aesthetic often deployed in Sheff's songwriting - over a racous waltzy jamboree. This might sound like a blogging cop-out, but it sounds like an Okkervil River song, which is definitely not a bad thing.
