New Video: Tinariwen's "Imidawan Ma Tenem"

North-West African group Tinariwen has just released another video, titled "Imidawan Ma Tenam" from their soon-to-be-released album Tassili. The band is considered a part of "Touareg" music, which is characterized by an electric blues influence on the traditional music of the region-- except for this record, where the artists have pared it down to acoustic guitar and hand drums, still to incredible affect.

The group, who have been deemed "poet-guitarists and soul rebels", recorded last winter in the South-Eastern Algerian desert, isolated from all but their musical guests, which included Tunde Adebempe and Kyp Malone from TV on the Radio. "Imidawan Ma Tenam" spans the desert and urban landscapes of Mali, contrasting the vibrant adornment of the local people to the stark yet epic desert background in which Tinariwen lives and records. Wilco's Nels Cline provides featured blues guitar in this track, adding another dimension to the band's foreign yet familiar sound. Check it out here:

The eleven track album will be released via ANTI- records August 30th. For more videos from the album, including the first single, navigate here and here. View the complete track list below.
