Portland trio Nurses return today with Dracula (the follow-up to 2009's Apple's Acre and second release on Dead Oceans), finally giving recorded release to new material that first impressed us as most of their set at PDX Pop Now in July. A little makeup goes a long way in this band-directed and slightly eerie new video for "Fever Dreams," which finds Aaron Chapman channeling the likes of Tobias Fünke, Kamala the Ugandan Giant and Annie Lennox (but maybe that's just me).
There's ample opportunity to get in on the celebration, too, as the band plays not one, not two, but (count 'em) three in-stores today: beginning with Jackpot Records (Hawthorne) at 4:30, Everyday Music (downtown) at 5:30 and Music Millenium at 7. Those are just the proverbial appetizers before the main course Thursday night as Nurses plays their release show at Holocene alongside Au and Houndstooth. Oh, and we'll be featuring the band soon, too, with a new session taken from the great set they played for our MusicFest day party at Mississippi Studios a couple of weeks back.
