Was a time not too long ago when And And And wrote and recorded songs as regularly as they breathed, dashing off EPs, mixtapes, full-lengths, and the like in a ramshackle manner that mirrored their rambunctious and sloppy (but not too sloppy) live performances. And what's more rock & roll than that? One wondered at times how long the pace could be kept, and moreover if the band could perhaps stand to gain from a sonic editor. That's no slight on And And And (Allen Ginsberg used to do the same), whose work ethic over the past couple of years has taken them a long way in a little time, in the prcoess garnering Best New Band honors and introducing us all to something called rigsketball.
But it's been nearly a year since we've had anything in recorded form from And And And, who've no doubt experienced an adjustment period since singer and guitarist Tyler Keene (also one of the band's main songwriters) left the band. High time, then, for their new Lost 10" EP, out this past week on Exploding Green and celebrated tonight with a release show at the Doug Fir (with Aan and The Blimp).
"I Want More Alcohol (It Makes Me Sadder)" is a number the band has been kicking around for a while now-- we got an early verison of it when they played our studios back in December of 2010. This new Kyle Glenn-directed video plays out like a bad drunk's version of a drunk, speaking of alcohol, a gathering of civilized animals that begins with niceties and tea before devolving into sword fights and stomach wounds. Then things get weird. Oh, and the band makes a brief appearance, too.
