It's been three years since Blind Pilot's 3 Rounds & a Sound, the debut that propelled the then duo to unexpected heights (iTunes love, packed SXSW showcases, touring with The Decemberists, numerous festival dates this summer, etc.). They've stayed busy, for the most part, with all of that, which is perhaps one reason why we've gone so long without anything new on the release front (outside of an iTunes session EP near the end of '09 that featured a memorable version of Gillian Welch's "Look at Miss Ohio").
So then, any news regarding new Blind Pilot is welcome news, and it seems we've got... some, anyway. The band just wrapped on the recording phase of an as-yet-untitled album this past weekend at Type Foundry, where they'd been working with Adam Selzer since February. Frontman Israel Nebeker told us that a September release is planned, once again on the local Expunged label. So there you go.
While you're waiting, why not revisit our session with the band from July of '08? And in case you missed it, here's un-fancy video of Nebeker performing at last week's Make It Pop! event at The Cleaners in downtown Portland.
