We reported back in November that majority-Portland manned band, Akron/Famiy, were readying their next studio album, ST II: The Cosmic Birth And Journey Of Shinju TNT. We still have no idea what that means. Butthere's no questioning its release date: February 8th on Dead Oceans.
The experimental folk trio have been steadily dishing out music since the release of 2009's, Set 'Em WIld, Set 'Em Free. Three items from the past year can be streamed and downloaded on their Bandcamp page, including Home Demos 2010, which features three demos of songs from the forthcoming LP.
Most recently, Akron/Family premeired the video for album track, "So It Goes". The song seems to run through each of the band's strengths from psychadelic experimental noise to jubiliant guitar strumming. I don't really want to try to interpret the video's computer-wthin-a-computer-wthin-a-computer conceptual backdrop. But it's pretty funny seeing them type their droning non-semantic singing in the Google search box.
The band stops by Portland's Wonder Ballroom on March 26th. Just one stop on Shinju TNT's journey. Maybe the guys in Akron/Family will tell us what this all means.
