Listen: The National's Matt Berninger Sings Grinderman

The National's Matt Berninger has been keeping busy in the afterglow of last year's High Violet, recording a new song with his band for the Win Win soundtrack and lending vocals to new tracks from The Forms and Booker T. Jones. Each of those has been interesting to hear, mostly for the fact that they place Berninger's baritone croon outside of his usual element-- his attempt at blue-eyed soul alongside Sharon Jones on the Booker T track is as jarring as it is novel.

And now this: Berninger appears on the planned Record Store Day release from Nick Cave's Grinderman-- a 12" glittery red vinyl offering featuring their song "Evil." Included are the original, an early demo version, and a pair of remixes, one of which (the Silver Alert Remix) features Berninger taking the lead.

As with most of these kinds of things, it's a limited edition release-- but you can hear it here now.
