It's that time again Sunday night! PDX/Rx, our free monthly showcase collaboration with Mississippi Studios, is back with another musical prescription for what ails you.
The first installment of the new year brings the first all hip-hop bill we've featured with some of the best the Portland scene has to offer in TxE, Vinnie DeWayne and Mic Capes. Headliners TxE (T and E)-- a trio, despite the moniker, made up of MCs TOPE and Epp along with the DJ work of G_Force (aka Calvin Valentine)-- have quickly established themselves as one of the more dynamic and hard working acts in town. They recently followed up last year's excellent We Get It in True full-length with the Tetherball EP (listen/get it free below). We previously featured TOPE and G_Force in a session recorded last year at Bar Bar.
"Swing Set" from that set recently got the throwback treatment from the trio and director Noah Porter.
We saw what upstart MC Vinnie DeWayne can do, meanwhile, at last September's PDX/Rx day party during MusicFest NW. The St. Johns product doesn't play out locally often (he's generally away at school in Chicago), but last year's Castaway album had everyone talking. Here's the record's "Peaks & Valleys."
