J. Tillman, the singer-songwriter who joined Fleet Foxes as a singing drummer in 2008, has announced his departure from the band with a post on his Tumblr yesterday. "Farewell Fleet Fans and Friends," the brief sayonara begins, "Back into the gaping maw of obscurity I go. Tokyo is my last show with the Foxes. Sorry if I was distant and obtuse if we ever met. Have fun." 

The Tokyo show in question is scheduled for tonight (January 20th) at Studio Coast. As a solo artist Tillman has released six full-length releases since 2006, the most recent being 2010's Singing Ax. No word on Tillman's immediate plans (outside of that gaping maw of obscurity).
