This weekend, prepare for a new addition to Portland's festival scene. Fire in the Canyon is an upcoming festival that will take place this weekend (August 5-7) at Horning's Hideout, just outside of Portland. The festival is bringing in an array of artists: old-schoolers like Del the Funky Homosapien and The Pharcyde (with a live band no less), as well as up-and-comers such as Boy Eats Drum Machine and Living Proof. The festival is backed by BRH Productions, Runaway Productions, local promotion and booking outfits, and Taxidermy Records, an independent, Portland-based label. The festival is promoting raised cultural awareness through music, art and interaction-- advertising art installations and "sound visuals" to enrich said musical and cultural learning. Social awareness is also a priority for the organizers, who will donate part of the proceeds to Mercy Corps, an international aid organization (also locally based.)
As if the bill wasn't enou
gh, the festival is equipped with generous camping space as well as a beer garden, for those with ID's and extra dollars. If you missed the boat on scoring tickets for Pickathon this weekend, Fire in the Canyon will satisfy your music needs, although perhaps in a completely different fashion-- (Del vs. Bill Callahan?) we'd be stumped, too.
You can check out the complete line-up/ schedule here, or for ticket information direct yourself to TicketsWest.
