Portland band Blue Giant has (at last) released their debut on Vanguard Records this past week. That, and the PDX Pop Now! compilation are the most-played local records on opbmusic this week. Another appealing debut, from Chicago band Maps & Atlases also rates high with us. And still one more debut worth your time: Frazy Ford's Obadiah. The Be Good Tanyas singer steps out on her own, with a soulful, slow-burn of a record, perfect for a July night after sundown. Click "Listen Now" on the front page to hear these artists in the mix.

Here's what we're playing:
1. Various/PDX Pop Now! 2010

How do you decide which Northwest artists to feature? Portland is so diverse in the artists that live and work here, which I find so compelling, and which is one reason to continue living here! I notice on your website that you solicit artists to submit their recordings.
* How does that work? What are your criteria for deciding what gets played, and how do you communicate that to the musicians?
* Your newer format with "In House" seems much more limited in scope than the previous "Beats & Pieces" and "Eclecticity with David Christensen" shows. How would you define the philosophical shift so that prospective artists can better decide whether to submit their works to you?
* If you decide not to feature certain submissions, do you communicate that to the artist, or do you get too many submissions to make any feedback or response impossible?
* Do you accept DIY submissions, or do you require that artists be connected to major or indie labels?
JUST A NOTE to say that I, a long-time listener and supporter, love both In House and the previous shows with David and Steven. I honestly wish we could have all three every week! I've just been very curious as to the philosophy of Jeremy and David and OPB higher-ups with the new format and how the material is selected, noticing that many genres seem to have lost out in the transition.
Thanks for your response, and thanks for bringing specifically NW music (the In House show) to the radio waves! Personally, I wish OPB would expand its music programming so that we could have the previous eclectic mixes PLUS the current pop music program.
Admiringly, and KEEP IT UP,
Grasshopper
