Idaho band Finn Riggins returns to their Portland home away from home for a release show at Berbati's tonight for their new Vs. Wilderness. In case you missed it, we recently featured the band here, and also recorded an in-studio session with them back in the spring of 2008. Jared Mees & the Grown Children, World's Greatest Ghosts and Typhoon are also part of the bill.
Also on stages tonight, a release show for The Stolen Sweets' new Chinatown-inspired effort and and an intriguing pair of Canadian acts at Mississippi Studios in Elliott Brood and Lightning Dust, each of whom have new albums out. Plus, our in-studio session on air tonight features Joe Pernice, Pernice Brothers frontman, reading from his new book, It Feels So Good When I Stop, and playing songs for the soundtrack.
Questions? Comments? Requests? We're here all night...

Hmmm. just saw the notice of Finn Riggins tonight at Berbatti's. Dang - I'd love to see them but don't know if I can make it happen now.
Caught Pink Martini in Redding earlier this week. Good show and great to see them in another setting.

Hey Gunky--
You may be glad to know in that case that Finn Riggins is playing this week's free show at RonTom's tomorrow night! Gonna be a hot time, no doubt. They'll also be back Nov. 13-14 opening for Built to Spill at the Wonder Ballroom.
Believe there's a new Pink Martini release on the horizon, isn't there? I'll be playing something from PM member Peter Murray's side project (or other project, may be more accurate) John Heart Jackie a little later on tonight, BTW.
Enjoy!

Hi JP
It's a rare night lately that I've been able to tune in without going to the archives. Nice to be here in real time. There is a new PM disc on the way : "Splendor in the Grass" As usual some very fine pieces in it, based on what I heard earlier in the week. Of course, they always excel live, so I don't yet know what the disc will sound like.
BTW, I never was able to hear the new Loch Lomond you mentioned last week. If you can squeeze something in tonight, I'm all ears. Alternatively, IMOJP mentioned Jesse Sykes a while ago, and I always appreciate her too.

Here you go, Jessica. Love this one!

My pleasure, great picks!
Sure, Gunky. A little Jesse Sykes here for you. Many of us are beginning to clamor for something new from her, but I haven't heard word of anything. One of my favorite voices in music....
So we're still a month out from the Loch Lomond EP, so I'm trying to hold off the new one a bit still. Rest assured, we'll be hearing plenty from it soon.

You're hitting them now. I liked the Ezra F& the harpoons and now Jesse Sykes. But I'm just hearing about Richmond Fontaine having some illness going around -- too bad, though you picked a good tune of theirs to play. How about transitioning to Magnolia Electric Company from there? Or the Hacienda Bros or DBTs.

Great show Jeremy. Thanks for playing RF. It takes the sting out of their canceled show last night.

Doubt you can play this. Rights and all. On my mind.

Ah, always love Elliott AND The Zombies, so that's an ideal combo-- and it's funny I just played the Zombies original last weekend. One of my favorite songs from one of my favorite albums. Thanks for bringing this one back, I'll try to fit something in before we're done here tonight.

Thanks! I just surprisingly discovered Odyssey and Oracle. Hence the Elliot video. Anyone reading this, the Zombies aren't what you think. of course Jeremy, you already know that.

Perfect. Thanks.

It's true, Leland, they're not-- but they didn't do themselves any favors with that come back album they put out a few years ago. Right as a whole new generation was discovering Odyssey & Oracle, too, with its reissue. But, yeah...
