Photo Review: MusicfestNW- Day 2

We did some club-hopping for night two and got around a little-- packed shows all the way around, which is apparently the norm no matter how many venues there are to go around.

No She & Him surprise, but M. Ward played to a predictably filled Crystal Ballroom, backed by members of Norfolk & Western.

Don't call it a comeback: Nada Surf's three solid albums to their second wave and clearly staying around for a while. Matthew Caws and company (gently) rocked the folks at Berbati's.

Not the most famous or even the second most famous band from Athens, GA, The Whigs are nevertheless going places. They closed out the night at Dante's with an energetic set that included healthy portions of their 2008 ATO debut, Mission Control.

Plenty more from the night here and here.

Tonight-- running on fumes but so much to love! Nick Jaina, a second helping of Langhorne Slim, Crooked Fingers, John Vanderslice, The Mommyheads, TV On the Radio, and Built to Spill-- (four words) Perfect. From. Now. On.

Don't wait up....

And on a completely different track... we had a perfect night which included the most memorable performance I've witnessed in years, yes - awesome, a word I never use.

Warmed up with The Old Believers at the intimate Towne Lounge, stepped over to catch the better than expected Super XX Man at Slabtown with a plan to catch a bit of Finn Riggins before partying at Jimmy Macs to the insane gipsy jazz of Rupa & The April Fishes... That's how it turned out except that Finn Riggins stole the peak, they shocked and stunned: Truly amazing, like a locomotive storming into a barn. So, so, good. Oh.

Saturday... getting up PM and we've energy enough to do
Ratatat, Les Savy Fav, Dirty Mittens, Flaspar, Fleet Foxes, The Shaky Hands and then Helio sequence or Thao... but that's not quite logistically possible, anything else could happen.

Thanks for the report-- you don't throw such adjectives around so it sounds like an amazing night. So glad you dug the Finn Riggins-- I thought their latest release was quite good but they're a whole other animal live, no doubt about it.

We saw entirely different things so it's good to hear what else was good-- photos for night 3 coming up from TV On the Radio, Built to Spill, Alela Diane, Vampire Weekend, Laura Gibson and more...
