A Black Keys Surprise!

Usually when a band releases an album-- particularly a giant, world beater of an album-- we give them a grace period (a buffer of time that recognizes the demands of touring and creation, and the importance of a bit of rest and reset in that process) of no less than two years. To demand more from an artist inside of that bubble just feels greedy; and those we love the most get an even longer pass-- it's not uncommon to find ourselves patiently waiting 6, 7, even 8 years for new material (right, Gillian Welch?).

All of this is just to say: HOLY CRAP, there's a new Black Keys album arriving December 6th!! The seventh album from Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney is El Camino and it finds them teamed once again with Danger Mouse, who also produced on 2008's Attack & Release-- an odd choice, perhaps, given that the Keys really seemed to have hit their stride while co-producing last year's outstanding Brothers. But you know what? Quibbles! A new Black Keys album will be ours in 2011, people! Look for the first single (we'll no doubt be playing the 0s and 1s out of it here on the stream), "Lonely Boy," on October 26th.

Oh but that's not all! Bob Odenkirk stars in this send up, all in the name of El Camino. There's even a wannabuyavan site set up to get this thing off of their hands! (330-510-1206 is the number to call, leave a message).
